Frequently Asked Questions

Q: As a resident student, how often do I attend classes ?

A: Classes are held on one weekend per month, Friday evening 6.00PM - 9.00PM, Saturday and Sunday from 9.00AM - 5.30PM.

Q: Are classes scheduled throughout the whole year?

A: Classes for resident students in the two-year program begin in September and go through June; the summer break occurs during the second half of June, July and August. Attendance is not required for Distance Education participants.

Q: Can I attend the school, working on weekends?

A: The Two-year DVD-Distance Education may work well for you. All lectures and classroom activities are digitally recorded and mailed to you on high quality DVDs. You also receive an easy to follow syllabus, study materials, quizzes, assessments and the support of a certified homeopath.

Q: How do the Self-paced and the Two-year Distance Education differ?

A: The course content for both options is exactly the same; each program consists of 20 modules. The two-year option follows a month-by-month schedule and can be completed in 22 months (20 sessions). Assignments are due monthly. The two-year option runs from September - June. This program is open to Canadian and US students.

The self-paced option consists of four courses. Each course is taken individually and has five modules with a total of 20 for the entire program. While it is easier for some students to follow monthly deadlines, others like more flexibility and finish the program in more or less than 22 months. The self-paced option gives you the choice to take longer or accelerate your studies. This program is open to students residing anywhere in the world.

Q: What is the best study option for an unpredictable work schedule?

A: The Self-paced Distance Education would be your best option. Assignment dates are flexible and you can take more or less time to complete each course. You could, for example, complete one course (five months of the resident program) in a year. Or, you could complete it in less than five months. This option has proven to work well for students with a demanding work schedule or challenging family commitments.

Q: Why would I choose the Self-paced Distance Education ?

A: If you live anywhere other than the US or Canada or like to study at your own time this is your home study option to earn a professional certificate in homeopathy.

Q: I live outside of the US; can I take the Certificate Program?

A: The Self-paced Distance Education is suited especially to students living outside of the US. With this option you receive one course (of four) at a time and have flexible completion dates. Your studies are fully supported by certified homeopaths and the wonders of modern technology.

Q: Where do I stand if I only complete the Foundations Home Health Course?

A: The main focus of this course is on first aid and acute health conditions typically encountered in every day life. You learn to find homeopathic solutions to meet personal and family health care needs. The course also gives you an introduction to the homeopathic perspective of treating chronic conditions and provides you with homeopathic case taking skills. If you are interested to continue towards professional certification, the 125 hours of course credit can be applied to the 500-hour Practitioner Certification Program.

Q: Can I take classes when I am out of the country for a few months every year?

A: The Self-paced Distance Education (20 sessions) would most likely be the best solution for you. You can order your first course packet (five modules) including DVDs and materials from anywhere in the world or take it with you when you travel. Once you have completed the first course of the program, you can begin the second one.

Q: What does certification mean?

A: After completing all requirements of the certificate program (two years), you will be certified as a homeopath (CHom). The school issues a certificate for completing the Two-year Certificate Program, and your transcript will document 500 hours of homeopathic training applicable for national certification with the Council of Homeopathic Certification.

Q: What is national certification?

National certification is provided by the Council for National Certification (CHC), an independent certifying board with members from homeopathic organizations nationwide. The CHC was formed (1991) in response to a new vision for the future of homeopathy and a unified profession (www.homeopathicdirectory.com).   The CHC board developed an exam and a certification process for the homeopathic profession and set standards for certified practitioners. To date, the CHC has certified more practitioners than any other professional homeopathic organization.

Q: What can I do with homeopathic certification?

A: Certified homeopaths usually work in a clinical setting with other health care practitioners or in private practice. You can also use the certification to sit for national certification with the Council for Homeopathic Certification .

Q: What do the different homeopathic designations mean?

A: In the US you will mostly see the following designations implying a standard of education:

·  CHom - Certified through a school with 500 hours of training
·  CCH - Nationally certified by the Council for Homeopathic Certification
·  RSHom - Registered with the North American Society of Homeopath (after being    nationally certified)

Q: Is there a license for homeopathy?

A: The laws governing the practice of homeopathy vary from state to state, country to country, and profession to profession. Many states do not provide licensing for alternative health care, including homeopathy. The Freedom of Health Act has now been established in many US states, meaning that alternative health care providers can legally practice without a license ( www.nationalhealthfreedom.org ). Successful completion of any homeopathic program does not result in professional licensure. Please check any legal issues regarding the practice of homeopathy in the states or countries of your residence ( www.homeopathicdirectory.com ).

Q: Which of the study options includes clinical work?

A: All study options resident, two-year distance and self-paced study include clinical work. If you are not in the resident program, you will receive DVDs from the school's clinic and also receive case supervision for your personal work. Most of the clinical work is done during the second year of the program.

Q: How can I participate in clinical training if I am a distance student?

A: All clinic cases are digitally video-recorded. You will receive DVDs for the cases observed by the resident class and also receive DVDs of class case discussions. Case supervision for your own casework is provided by certified homeopaths either via mail, email or fax.

Q: The Advanced Clinical Program sounds really interesting, why can't I just sign up for that?

A: This program in essence, is a "graduate program." It is designed for certified practicing homeopaths interested in supervision for case work in preparation for national certification (www.homeopathicdirectory.com). Since it is a graduate program, it requires a professional level knowledge of homeopathy (500 hours of education).
